Ukraine: Serhii Bozhko new head of Nuclear Authority

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed Serhii Bozhko as the new Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRC). Mr Bozhko succeeds former Head of SNRC Olena Mykolaichuk.

Mr Bozhko has long experience within the field of state regulation of the safety of nuclear facilities and has throughout his career contributed actively to the development of Ukraine's national legislation in the area of nuclear and radiation safety.

He has held different positions at the SNRC since 1993 and served as Deputy Chairperson from 2005 - 2011.

Internationally, Mr Bozhko has actively participated in IAEA related activities and has been involved in cooperation projects between Ukraine and the European Commission. From 1982 till 1993, he worked at the Kyiv R&D Institute “Energoproject” where he participated in the design activities of Paks NPP in Hungary, Balakovo NPP in Russian Federation, Belene NPP in Bulgaria and the Khmelnitsky and Rovno NPPs in Ukraine.

Mr Bozhko earned a degree in thermal power plants from Kyiv Polytechnical Institute in 1982. His most recent appointment was at the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom”.
